Starfish Ministries is involved in working with mothers in significantly poor areas of the Philippines, who are pregnant or have a new born child.
Many of the mothers are either malnourished themselves or have other children who are malnourished. It is our desire to provide natural vitamins which are known in the community, grown locally and have been proven to enhance better breast feeding and general health of mother and baby.
By providing these vitamins, the risk of malnutrition is minimised. It supports the desire of mothers to breastfeed and is in line with the Philippine Government’s policy to encourage breastfeeding. Moringa capsules are provided for pregnant mothers in their second trimester and for up to 12 months after the birth of their baby. Moringa is rich in essential vitamins. Three Capsules are taken each day.
Together with these vitamins, Starfish provides a gift pack of quality (new and used) baby clothing along with regular personal support by our trained coordinators. The coordinators also review antenatal clinic & medical reports with the mothers, referring any matters to a certified medical doctor for necessary support. Each mother will receive a Bible in their own Tagalog language and the local pastor of our affiliated church will maintain spiritual encouragement and Biblical teaching in home groups or church meetings. The financial investment in supporting these mothers is around $10 per month per mother.
